In Week 12, the Philadelphia Eagles appeared to be among the strongest favorites to win the Super Bowl in 2024.
By then, head coach Nick Sirianni and his team had already jumped out to a 10-1 lead, and their hard-hitting style of football was producing results on the field.
Sadly, a lot can happen in a matter of weeks. The Eagles went on to lose 1-5 after that, and now their season is finished after a devastating 32-9 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, despite hopes that they would turn things around come playoff time.
Sirianni has gained the Eagles team enough goodwill, but in professional sports, a coach’s reputation is usually made or broken by his or her recent performance. However, despite numerous demands for the Eagles to replace Sirianni following their disastrous season-ending collapse, the 42-year-old head coach isn’t currently considering his future with the team.
“I’m not considering that right now. My thoughts are with the guys. There are many guys in that locker room who have given this their all. I don’t worry about myself. According to Brandon Lee Gowton of SB Nation’s Bleeding Green, Sirianni stated during his postgame press conference, “As the head coach, I’m just trying to be there for our guys and our staff.”

The Eagles, who advanced all the way to the Super Bowl in 2023 and, for the most part of the 2023–24 regular season, appeared to be an even better team than the one that faced off against the Kansas City Chiefs in the big game, will be disappointed by their loss to the Buccaneers. Consequently, the blame game has started, with Nick Sirianni possibly taking the brunt of it.
The head coach’s job is to prepare the players for action and to carry out the game plan, and given the Eagles’ dismal recent record, Sirianni has obviously not been able to do that to the best of his abilities. However, the Eagles may decide to hold onto him in order to preserve the continuity of a team that just needs a few adjustments to improve upon everything that’s wrong with them right now, given their turnaround under Sirianni and the addition of Jalen Hurts at quarterback.
