The Philadelphia Eagles sadly announced the fatal injury of one of their top players.
The Philadelphia Eagles, in front of their Week 16 Christmas game against the New York Giants, released their third and last official injury report on Saturday.
Avonte Maddox, Darius Slay, Landon Dickerson, and Zach Cunningham were the four players who were declared out.
Maddox gave every practice this week his complete attention, but the Eagles will not activate him from injured reserve for the game on Monday. It’s probably best to proceed cautiously. In Week 17, Maddox might be able to play.
Following arthroscopic knee surgery, Slay is missing his second straight game. Week 17 is when he might be able to return. Unless James Bradberry is benched, Kelee Ringo and Eli Ricks will probably be the starting lineup for the foreseeable future.
The Eagles will probably start Sua Opeta at left guard in Dickerson’s absence.
Cunningham has missed three of the Eagles’ last four games, including his current two-game absence. It would be better for Philly if their best linebacker returned as soon as possible.
Nicholas Morrow was declared QUESTIONABLE.
Given that Morrow didn’t practice at all this week, is it more likely that he won’t play? Or will he be available in the event of a pitch count?
The Eagles will be without their two best off-ball linebackers if Morrow is unable to suit up. Only Shaq Leonard and undrafted rookie Ben Van Sumeren remain on the team. In order to add more depth and support for special teams, they might also consider temporarily promoting Brandon Smith from the practice squad.
Notably, DeVonta Smith has no game status listed.
He stated that even though he missed practice on Thursday and Friday, he is playing against the Giants. On Saturday, DeVonta had limited play.
