Heading into the Wild Card round, both the Miami Dolphins and the Kansas City Chiefs were suffering with injuries to key players. After witnessing defensive tackle Derrick Nnadi leave the game early in the first half of Saturday night’s game, the Chiefs added another name to their list of worries.
Nnadi was deemed questionable to return after leaving the game in the first quarter due to an elbow injury. At halftime, though, Nnadi was demoted to out after getting a little extra attention from the team’s training staff. For the remainder of the game, Nnadi won’t be available to the Chiefs.
After watching Nnadi depart throughout the first half of the Wild Card game, the Chiefs have now relegated him to out.
A spot on the squad that is already thin will be made even worse by the loss of Nnadi up front. All season long, the Chiefs have made numerous unsuccessful attempts to add depth to Chris Jones’ defensive tackle spot.
Brett Veach, the general manager, selected Keondre Coburn, but he was lost twice to waivers. In exchange for Neil Farrell, a player who never plays, he sent a sixth-round pick to the Las Vegas Raiders. It only took him a few weeks to start receiving a respectable amount of rotating work after the Chiefs most recently signed veteran Mike Pennel off the street to the practice squad.
The Chiefs will be pleased to learn that Jones, Mike Danna, and Charles Omenihu are among the many lineman who possess the ability to slide both inside and out.
In his sixth season with the Chiefs in 2023, Nnadi recorded 29 tackles and 1 sack. The 2018 NFL Draft saw him taken in the second round, and he has since participated in 98 games.
Multiple injuries are sustained by Kansas City Chiefs at offensive tackle.
Against the Chargers, Morris and Taylor both visited the sidelines in the first half.
Against the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 18, the Chiefs are resting as many of their starters as possible in a game that has no bearing on the standings, but a few key players must play in order to complete the regular season. Regretfully, throughout the first half of the game against the Bolts at SoFi Stadium, they have had numerous injuries up front.
Shortly before halftime, starting left tackle Wanya Morris was removed from the game and was being assessed for a possible head injury. Morris has been relegated to out of the game for the remainder of it.
Jawaan Taylor switched from starting on the right side to the left, and Lucas Niang entered the game to play right tackle in Morris’ place. Regretfully, not long afterward, Taylor sustained a leg injury while assuming command of the left side.
With Morris and Taylor perhaps hurt and Prince Tega Wanogho both on injured reserve, the Chiefs are extremely thin at tackle. The team’s left tackle at the beginning of the season, Donovan Smith, has been sidelined for weeks with an injury.
Niang is still on the right side of the field, but Joe Thuney has now entered the game to replace Taylor at left tackle.
After moving up to get Morris as a member of their rookie class, the Chiefs selected the Oklahoma native in the third round of the 2023 NFL Draft. In Week 18, Morris makes his sixth straight start for the Chiefs.
