Don deal: 49ers release RB and add DL Austin Bryant to the practice squad Jeremy McNichols
Running back Jeremy McNichols was cut by the San Francisco 49ers from the practice squad for what appears to be the seventeenth time this season. Returning edge rusher Austin Bryant was the corresponding move.
After being cut from the Minnesota Vikings practice squad on Monday, Bryant was quickly re-signed by the 49ers. Bryant had been with the Vikings since November 21. With Clean Ferrell sidelined this weekend due to a knee injury, the 49ers would be wise to have Bryant return.
Even with Ferell out with an injury, the 49ers’ defensive line should be fairly healthy going into Saturday. Arik Armstead, Nick Bosa, and Javon Hargrave will get things started. As he alternates with Randy Gregory, Chase Young is expected to be the other edge rusher. The only thing left to determine is who the team will start on game day—Bryant or Robert Beal Jr.
Considering that Christian McCaffrey has fully recovered from his calf injury, McNichols is not needed at running back. Together with Jordan Mason and Elijah Mitchell, McCaffrey has a strong supporting cast.
