Another star player for the Steelers has made an unexpected declaration regarding his retirement.
Stephon Tuitt, a defensive end for the Pittsburgh Steelers, revealed this week that he is retiring from the NFL.
“With respect to the Steelers organization, my teammates, and coaches I would like to officially announce that I have come to the decision to retire from the NFL,” wrote Tuitt, 29, in a statement posted on the team’s official Twitter account on Wednesday.
After expressing gratitude to the Steelers organization and the city of Pittsburgh, where he has spent the last eight seasons playing, Tuitt stated he is “blessed to leave this game with my health.”
The 29-year-old athlete stated that he is now “being called to move beyond the sport of football,” noting many significant life changes.

According to The Washington Post, Richard Bartlett III, Tuitt’s brother, was murdered in a hit-and-run accident in Georgia in June. Following the tragedy, Tuitt took a break from the game and finished his degree at the University of Notre Dame.
“I want to thank everyone for the love and support they have shown both on and off the field,” he stated.
Tuitt also expressed gratitude to Steelers coach Mike Tomlin and the Rooney Family. “Playing for this historic team was an honor and a privilege,” he said in his statement. Cheers, Steelers.”

Prior to the commencement of the next NFL season, the Steelers have not yet made an announcement on Tuitt’s replacement. On Sunday, September 11, 2022–23, the Pittsburgh team will be on the road to play the Cincinnati Bengals.
