Another star player for the sooners has made an unexpected declaration regarding her retirement.
NORMAN, Oklahoma Raylee Pogue of Oklahoma, regrettably, has to announce her retirement. This week, the rising junior utility player revealed her decision, which she made due to health concerns.
Pogue began her message on Twitter by saying,
“Since I was 4 years old, softball has played a major role in my life.” “Some of the best experiences, people, and life lessons I could have ever hoped for have come from it.
“One thing about athletics is that injuries are inevitable. You know that I’ve experienced my fair share if you know me at all. Above all, I’ve had several brain traumas. I’ve made the decision to put my health first and medically retire from softball after suffering my sixth and most recent concussion and requiring an ACL reconstruction surgery in 2021 alone. Among the hardest choices I have ever had to make was this one. When your body is unable of doing something that your mind and emotions will never give up, it’s not an easy situation. But it’s the greatest choice for my health, I’ve decided after consulting with doctors, my family, and a lot of prayer.
“I’m very grateful that I attended OU for two incredible years. I appreciate all that my teammates and coaches have done for me.
“I am ready to see what God’s plan has in store for me in the future.”
Pogue only played in eight games during the Sooners’ bid for a national championship because of that season-ending injury he sustained pretty early in the spring. She scored six runs while being used as a pinch runner and stealing a bag.
Pogue played in 21 games during the previous season’s shortened schedule, hitting.192 with a home run, a double, four RBI, and six runs scored. She also stole a few bases and drew a couple of walks.
The native of nearby Washington, Oklahoma, came to Oklahoma after dominating as an all-state player during his last year of high school. Pogue hit a stellar.448 during the regular season of 2018, with 29 RBI, 10 doubles, 6 home runs, and 4 triples.
“At the time of Pogue’s signing, head coach Patty Gasso expressed her pride in having another local athlete in the lineup.” “Raylee is a very valuable utility type athlete who is a hard-hitting right-hander. She can play any outfield position and catch in the corners. Her deceptive quickness will enhance her already aggressive and quick style.”

There has been some encouraging news in the offseason, despite the fact that this is undoubtedly a major setback. In recent days, pitcher Olivia Trautwein and All-Pac 12 utility player Alyssa Brito of Oregon received transfers to Gasso and the Sooners. With a 56-4 record, the Sooners won their fifth championship in program history.
