Another star player for the Indianapolis Colts has made an unexpected declaration regarding his retirement.

Submitted to ESPN: According to a source, Andrew Luck has told the Colts that he is leaving the NFL. The official announcement will be made at a press conference on Sunday, but Luck is currently checking out because he is mentally exhausted.

Adam Schefter of ESPN has reported the startling news that Indianapolis Colts quarterback Andrew Luck will be retiring from the NFL at the age of 29.

It seems that Luck’s mental fatigue, following years of battling injuries behind subpar offensive lines, has made him more focused on the future, which means that his time as a professional football player will end far sooner than anyone could have predicted.

Additionally, according to Schefter, Luck has already met with Jim Irsay, the owner of the Colts, to inform them of his retirement.

Although he has struggled with severe injuries throughout his career, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2012 NFL Draft has proven to be an exceptional quarterback when on the field.

When Luck was recovering from shoulder surgery and the ensuing setback that kept him out of the game for the entire 2017 season, he was in a dark place.

While Luck was expected to be healthy for 2019, he has been battling an injury that was initially diagnosed as a high ankle problem but has since been reclassified as a calf injury. It seems that the discomfort hasn’t subsided and that mental strain has had an impact.

Although it’s shocking that Luck is retiring from the game after just six seasons, his body has obviously seen a lot.
