Following their NFL Playoff victory over the Rams, Sean McVay’s message to Jared Goff is profound.
Head coach of the Los Angeles Rams Sean McVay sent a graceful message of support to his former quarterback Jarod Goff after the Detroit Lions ended their NFL Playoff hopes, demonstrating his respect for Goff.
At Ford Field on Sunday night, the Lions defeated the Rams 24-23 to advance to the NFL Playoffs’ Wild Card round. Goff gave Detroit the victory, allaying concerns that the Rams’ quarterback, Matthew Stafford, a former Lion, would mount a comeback.
Deep into the fourth quarter, Goff—who was traded for Stafford prior to the 2021 season—threw an 11-yard pass to Amon-Ra St. Brown. The Rams’ use of timeouts in conjunction with this play gave the Lions the victory.
With no interceptions, Goff completed 22 of 27 passes for 277 yards and a touchdown in a fantastic performance. St. Brown, who caught seven passes for 110 yards, was one of his frequent targets.
It was Detroit’s first playoff victory in thirty-two years. It abruptly ended the season for his former team in what many had labeled a “revenge game” following his trade to the Lions by McVay and his staff.
McVay, though, gave Goff high praise and expressed his admiration for how much the quarterback’s game has changed in the three seasons since moving to Detroit. Before the significant trade, the two collaborated in Los Angeles for four seasons.
McVay remarked, “Jared was really efficient.” You are able to observe his command. Though I believe it’s overblown, I’m genuinely thrilled for him. Though it goes without saying that we wanted to win, he performed admirably.
