In the 2024 hiring cycle, Don Deal, the defensive coordinator of American football, has acquired a star player.
In his first year as Cleveland’s defensive coordinator in 2024, former Lions coach Jim Schwartz created quite a stir. It was enough to win the PFT assistant coach of the year award. Especially in light of the Texans’ 45-14 defeat last night, it probably won’t be enough to get the ball rolling for another head coaching position.
Schwartz, a 29-52 player for the Lions, has made it known that he would like to be given another opportunity to manage a team. In 2017, he served as coordinator for the Eagles defense.
Schwartz received two interviews—with the Cardinals and the Giants—but no offers despite Philadelphia winning the Super Bowl that season.
He took part in the interview process for the Cleveland head coaching position two years later, which led to Kevin Stefanski’s hiring.
The good news for the Browns is that it’s likely Schwartz will be back in 2024. That doesn’t appeal to all Browns fans the way it did prior to the team’s playoff loss to Houston.
