Chicago weather: chilly wind An alert was issued due to extremely low temperatures.

Chicago – With dangerously low temperatures continuing to drop this morning, numerous warnings and advisories were put into effect throughout Chicago and the suburbs overnight.

Today’s wind chills are usually between 30 and 40 degrees below zero.

A Chill Wind Up until 12 p.m. on Sunday, a warning is in effect for the following counties: Central Cook County, Eastern Will County, Kankakee County, Southern Cook County, Lake County, Newton County, Porter County, and Jasper County.

Monday at noon is when the Wind Chill Warning for the following counties will expire: DeKalb, DuPage, Grundy, Kane, Kendall, La Salle, Lake, McHenry, Northern Cook, Northern Will, and Southern Will.

A wind chill advisory was in effect for several of the aforementioned counties from Sunday at noon to Wednesday at nine a.m.

The National Weather Service (NWS) has released a comprehensive list of warnings and advisories, which can be viewed here.

Strong west winds will continue to cause blowing and drifting on many roads on Sunday, according to the NWS.

Keep your dog’s outings brief if you’re taking them over the next few days. This is the morning for sweaters and booties.

Frostbite on exposed skin can occur in 10 to 30 minutes at wind chills of -20 to -40 degrees.

According to the NWS, you should bring pets inside, cover any exposed skin, minimize the amount of time you spend outside, and slowly turn on faucets.
