Mike LaFleur has been selected by the Los Angeles Rams to be their new offensive coordinator.

LaFleur, the offensive coordinator for the New York Jets the past two seasons, is scheduled to sign with the Rams later this week, a source confirmed to the Southern California News Group.

After a dismal 5–12 season, Sean McVay is expected to add a number of new faces to his redesigned coaching staff, LaFleur being the first. According to reports, the Rams let go of defensive backs coach Jonathan Cooley, offensive line coach Kevin Carberry, defensive assistant Lance Schulters, assistant defensive line coach Skyler Jones, and special teams coordinator Joe DeCamillis.

LaFleur will take over as the program’s offensive play caller in lieu of Liam Coen, who recently departed to return to Kentucky. Zach Wilson, the second overall pick in the 2021 draft, was the Jets’ quarterback, and it was primarily because of this that LaFleur left the team.

However, LaFleur has an impressive coaching background having worked as 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan’s passing game coordinator. LaFleur, who was briefly employed by Shanahan in San Francisco, Atlanta, and Cleveland, studied under him for seven seasons. He is the younger brother of Packers coach Matt LaFleur.

The Rams are holding out for a head coach to replace McVay and LaFleur in order to revamp the offense, which finished 2022 with the fifth-worst NFL scoring average of 18.1 points per game.

The Chargers have scheduled interviews for senior offensive assistant Greg Olson, assistant head coach Thomas Brown, and quarterbacks coach Zac Robinson of the Rams. Robinson is a candidate for the position of offensive coordinator with the Ravens. Brown has interviewed with the Houston Texans for the head coach position and is a contender for the offensive coordinator position with the Commanders.
