As a result of a catastrophic injury, the boston bruins welcomed a top player valued over $900 million
In this latest edition of Boston Bruins News & Rumors, the Bruins have been labeled as a team to watch in the Chris Tanev sweepstakes.
In other news, it has been reported that the Original Six club is searching the trade market for a particular kind of player. In other news, a few key players on the Bruins’ roster have received injury updates.
Let’s talk about all of this and more in the Bruins News & Rumors column for today, January 12.
Tanev’s designated watch team is the Bruins.
With several important unrestricted free agents (UFAs) still pending, the Calgary Flames are among the best teams to watch at the trade deadline this season.
Tanev is one of them; a right-shot shutdown defenseman who plays top-four minutes, he will attract a lot of attention.
Matt Larkin mentioned the Bruins as a team to watch in the Tanev sweepstakes in a recent piece for Daily Faceoff.
Larkin pointed out that the Bruins may look to add a right-shot defenseman like Tanev before the deadline passes due to their injury problems on the blue line.
Tanev is a responsible and seasoned defenseman, so the Bruins might benefit from his addition. If signed, he would improve the Bruins’ top four options on the right side and be a great asset to their penalty kill unit.
But, as Larkin points out in his article, the Bruins may find it difficult to acquire Tanev given that they lack a first-round pick this year and have a small pool of prospects.
Bruins scouting forwards in the middle six
Following the offseason retirements of David Krejci and Patrice Bergeron, it was widely anticipated that the Bruins would try to acquire a top-six center before the trade deadline.
The Bruins are thinking about their options, even though adding a top-six center would be advantageous.
The Bruins are currently looking through the trade market for middle-six forwards, according to ESPN’s Emily Kaplan.
The Bruins have a number of viable options that fit that description when examining the current trade market.
Among them are the Anaheim Ducks’ Frank Vatrano, the Montreal Canadiens’ Sean Monahan, the San Jose Sharks’ Anthony Duclair, the Philadelphia Flyers’ Morgan Frost, and the Ducks’ Adam Henrique.
Updates on Bruins injuries
The injury has been hurting the Bruins a lot lately, and yesterday (Jan. 11) we received some noteworthy updates as a result.
First, with effect from January 8, defenseman Brandon Carlo was placed on injured reserve (IR). Due to an upper-body injury, the second-round pick from 2015 left the team’s game against the Colorado
Avalanche early and hasn’t appeared in action since. He won’t be able to return to the Bruins lineup until their game against the Avalanche on January 18 due to this IR placement.
Jim Montgomery, the head coach of the Bruins, also gave updates on goalie Linus Ullmark and forward Matt Poitras.
The two are considered day-to-day, he said. Due to different injuries, both players had to leave the Bruins’ most recent game against the Arizona Coyotes early.
Ullmark’s injury was especially worrisome because he needed his teammates’ help to get off the ice. Fortunately, neither player sustained any major injuries, and they should return soon.
Former Bruin Foligno Announces Blackhawks Extension
The Chicago Blackhawks and former Bruin Nick Foligno have agreed to a two-year, $9 million contract extension.
In the off-season, the Bruins dealt the veteran winger’s UFA rights to the Blackhawks, and he soon signed a contract with them. It’s safe to say that “Uncle Nick” has been a wonderful addition to Chicago ever since.
This season, Foligno has eight goals and seventeen points in 39 games. Although he has shown good offensive performance, his superior leadership has been his most valuable attribute.
For Connor Bedard and the other young players on the Blackhawks, he has taken on the role of mentor.
After signing this new contract, he will now be an integral part of the Blackhawks’ rebuild. In the near future, he might even be able to rock the “C” for them.
