Ryan Day, whose contract with the Buckeyes is still unsigned, sent a strong message to the team and fans as soon as rumors of him being replaced by Mike Vrabel began to spread.
The Tennessee Titans fired Mike Vrabel on Tuesday, and Ohio State supporters can’t help but daydream a little.
Numerous Ohio State supporters and even some members of the media proposed that Ohio State try to sign Vrabel to take Ryan Day’s place.
Vrabel is closely connected to Ohio State. He is a member of the Buckeyes’ athletics hall of fame and was an All-American defensive end. Following his lengthy NFL career, Vrabel joined his alma mater’s coaching staff right away.
From 2011 to 2013, Vrabel coached linebackers at Ohio State before moving on to coach the defensive line. After that, Vrabel moved to the NFL, where he spent three seasons coaching linebackers for the Houston Texans before taking
over as their defensive coordinator in 2017. From 2018 to 2023, Vrabel was Tennessee’s head coach. In 2021, he won Coach of the Year in the NFL.
Under Day, Ohio State has finished 11-2 the past three seasons. Ohio State supporters are furious with him because they have lost to Michigan three years in a row. Day’s overall record as the head coach of the Buckeyes is 56-8.
