Quarterback Released by the Pittsburgh Steelers Out of Practice Squad, Trace McSorley

The Pittsburgh Steelers had one quarterback too many with Kenny Pickett fully recovered and Mason Rudolph starting. Thus, Trace McSorley, a former Penn State quarterback, was cut from the practice squad on Tuesday.

This means that Mitch Trubisky, Rudolph, and Pickett will be playing in this week’s playoff game against the Buffalo Bills. McSorley was added by the Steelers following Pickett’s high ankle sprain.

Trubisky will probably play Josh Allen on the scout team for Pittsburgh this week. Trubisky is the one who can most closely mimic Allen’s athleticism and has a deep familiarity with the Bills offense from his time there.

On Sunday, January 14, at 1:00 PM ET, the Steelers and Bills will play in Buffalo as part of the Wild Card round of the playoffs.

The story first surfaced on Steelers Wire.
