Michail Antonio could be sidelined for up to six weeks, which is yet another injury setback for West Ham, according to Jack Rosser.
The Hammers striker, who has already missed two months due to a knee ligament injury, is expected to miss an additional four to six weeks of action due to the ailment, according to a report from the Sun via X on January 8.
It is known that his injury setback will probably cause Danny Ings to postpone, if not completely prevent, his departure from London Stadium.
“Michail Antonio is expected to miss an additional four to six weeks of time due to a setback in his recuperation from his injury to his knee ligament,” Rosser reported. “Likely to delay/prevent any transfer away for Danny Ings, particularly given the uncertainty surrounding [Jarrod] Bowen’s fitness.”
The fact that West Ham is in desperate need of a new striker demonstrates how devastating Antonio’s recent injury news is. Despite Bowen’s natural position as a winger, David Moyes has been using him as an all-out striker.
Without a doubt, Ings is not good enough for the Hammers. When the former Southampton player departs the team, West Ham supporters will celebrate, but it may take some time because there are still unanswered questions.
It might be time to begin wrapping up Antonio’s stint at West Ham as well. Not that the Jamaican international is not capable of performing at the best level; rather, Moyes’ concerns about his recent injury history are making matters worse.
Growing older increases the risk of sustained injuries and extended periods of inactivity. Numerous European strikers are eager to fill the void left by Antonio and Ings should West Ham manage to let them go.
Like any other striker in the league, Antonio is not going to be happy to sit on the bench. But that is just the way football works. Every player is impacted by the circle of life.
