SEALED: The Flyers recently completed an essential new signing.

Sealed: The Flyers recently completed an essential new signing.

With elite prospects at every position, Philadelphia boasts one of the best prospect pools in the league. One of the greatest players in the game right now is Matvei Michkov, and he’s only getting started.

Emil Andrae is a promising defensive back; Cutter Gauthier and Tyson Foerster are going to be outstanding; and both Alexei Kolosov and Samuel Ersson have bright futures in goal.

The depth is amazing, really. Due to their recent high level of roster turnover, the Flyers have amassed some excellent assets. While some were late-round or free-agent steals, others were high picks.

All things considered, the Flyers have a prospect pool to be jealous of, but more work needs to be done.

Luckily, based only on projected potential, the team appears to have had an excellent draft. Michkov is a phenomenal talent, and Oliver Bonk could be one of the top four defensemen in the NHL.

Among the better goalie prospects selected were Carson Bjarnason and Yegor Zavragin. In the early polls (including mine), the Flyers are favored because they have a strong overager in Cole Knuble and some good value picks in Alex Ciernik, Carter Sotheran, Ryan McPherson, and Matteo Mann.

The Flyers have a long-term outlook. And there is indeed cause for excitement about this franchise once more after years—decades, really—of suffering. However, begin familiarizing yourself with the names that are close to the top of Daily Faceoff’s draft rankings this year.

Greatest Strength
Having two elite forwards with first-line ability is uncommon. What if there were two? Two of the best prospects in the game, Michkov and Gauthier, will soon make Philadelphia their home.

While Michkov is signed through 2026 with the KHL, Gauthier should be able to fit right in by 2024–25.

The Flyers will have added a few more important players by then to make this group formidable. But the Flyers are in capable hands, with these two leading the way.

Largest Vulnerability
It may be considered nitpicking, but the Flyers’ defense corps lacks a top-pairing player.

Grans, Zamula, and Ronnie Attard may have to compete for the third-pairing spot, but Andrae and Bonk have the makings of second-pairing defenders. If they don’t just decide to go the trade route, they can easily address that because the 2024 NHL Draft is loaded with talented defensemen.
