Breaking News Aaron Glenn, the defensive coordinator for the Detroit Lions, enters the field ahead of the Minnesota Vikings.

ALLEN PARK — In the coming weeks, Dan Campbell may be searching for a few new coordinators. And while he recognizes that this is the cost of success going into the upcoming season, it also presents clear problems

The Lions have already been asked to interview defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn and offensive coordinator Ben Johnson for the head coaching position at Washington, even before Black Monday has officially begun. Campbell encourages both guys to pursue executive positions.

“You know what, those two guys are more than deserving of the opportunity to be head coach candidates,” Campbell remarked. Where you are does not matter to me. I think that two are among the greatest that you will come upon. They are with us, nonetheless, till then. Although it is not how I want to lose either of them, that is how things work.

The requests are completely expected. Before deciding to head back to Detroit in January of last year, Johnson set up another appointment with the Carolina Panthers after being invited to meet with three organizations. After making the playoffs just once in his first 11 seasons, he stated he wanted to be a part of something great.

Before deciding to head back to Detroit in January of last year, Johnson set up another appointment with the Carolina Panthers after being invited to meet with three organizations. After making the playoffs just once in his first 11 seasons in the league, he stated he wanted to be a part of something special, and he has now accomplished that. On Sunday night at Ford Field, the third-seeded Lions will meet the No. 6 Los Angeles Rams in a wild-card game.

Johnson is expected to be among the most sought-after applicants this hiring cycle after leading the Lions attack to a second consecutive top-five finish. With this, he joins the San Francisco 49ers as the only teams with a top-five passing and running game.

Despite some trailing numbers, Glenn has also garnered a few interviews over the last two offseasons, including follow-up interviews with Arizona and Indianapolis last year. That attests to his standing as a former player in the league who can relate to and get the most out of his teammates. In an NFLPA survey last week, players from all over the league were asked to rank their coordinators on a scale of 1 to 10. He came in first.

Glenn’s case may be bolstered going into this hiring cycle because his defense is improving as well, ranking second against the run this year and making significant progress against the pass as a result of personnel and schematic tweaks.
