Sooners has scheduled a new signee…
A tight end from Oklahoma is returning to the Lone Star State. According to reports, Jason Llewellyn, a 2023 second-year player for the Sooners, has made the decision to return to Texas Tech to restart his career. A 4-star prospect from Aledo, Texas, which is located just west of Fort Worth, Llewellyn participated in 10 games as a true freshman and saw action in three more as a sophomore, primarily on special teams. On Nov. 30, he signed up for the NCAA Transfer Portal, confirming several rumors that he was leaving.
Although Llewellyn has not released an official statement, he has updated his social media bios to refer to himself as a “tight end at Texas Tech University.”
Llewellyn, who stands six feet five and weighs 255 pounds, was a part of Brent Venables’ first recruiting class at OU. According to some rankings, he was the 12th tight end in the country by Rivals, the 13th by ESPN, and the 41st by 247 Sports. Llewellyn led Aledo to a state title as a senior by catching 30 receptions for 452 yards and seven touchdowns. When Llewellyn entered in January 2022, he picked OU over Alabama, Auburn, Texas, and other schools.
Llewellyn played 38 snaps in 2022 and 10 snaps in 2023, per Pro Football Focus. forty-four of those 48 snaps were on running plays. This year, the Sooners’ tight end room is being completely redone. While Austin Stogner, a senior, graduated and Blake Smith has accessed the transfer portal, Joe Jon Finley remains hopeful that Kaden Helms can recover and make a difference in his third season of play.
Bauer Sharp, a transfer from Southeastern Louisiana, has joined OU, but last season Finley had to deal with a walk-on, a Division II basketball transfer, and a converted defensive lineman. Davon Mitchell, a 4-star prospect from Allen, Texas, via Los Alamitos, California, is projected to be a major contributor for the Sooners as a rookie. Mitchell was formerly part of the 2025 recruiting class.
