Shocking revelations: Regarding the job security of football coach Ryan Day, the president of Ohio State said…

Columbus, Ohio Ted Carter, the president of Ohio State University, has experience with both the high standards of a Power 5 program with a national championship tradition and legendary football rivalries.

In his new position, both of those backgrounds fit in. Thus, it is unlikely that Carter was taken aback when, just five minutes into his first media appearance, he was asked his first question concerning the future of his football coach.

Carter coordinated that news conference with the start of the academic year. The former chancellor of Nebraska and Naval Academy superintendent began work on January 1st, officially. The Buckeyes’ season came to an unfortunate end three days prior when they lost to Missouri 14-3 in the Cotton Bowl.

Carter addressed the assembled reporters, saying, “First off, I have a great respect for the biggest rivalries that exist in the country.” The rivalry between Ohio State and Michigan was more important to the person who oversaw the Naval Academy than the Army-Navy game. Our objectives are to win the Big Ten and the national championship each year, and I believe Ryan Day would agree. That wasn’t how we met.

However, Ryan Day has an excellent program. He serves as our coach. He is and will always be our coach, and I’m proud of that.

In any case, Carter would not be in charge of making such choices. That will be the responsibility of the person he selects to succeed Gene Smith as athletic director. Day’s employment with Smith comes to an end this summer.

Carter stated on Monday that the search advisory team’s preparation for his hiring has allowed the process to be “well underway.”

In the event that the football coach was fired, the president would undoubtedly be consulted, especially considering the size of the contract buyout—tens of millions of dollars.
