SEALED; Buckeyes has just completed another big signing.
Will Howard, a former quarterback for Kansas State, is moving to Ohio State.
The last four seasons, 22-year-old Howard was a member of the Wildcats. He made 34 appearances for K-State, throwing for 5,786 yards, 48 touchdowns, and 25 interceptions while completing 58.8% of his passes. He will now be participating in football in The Shoe.
Howard, who is listed as 6’5″ and 242 pounds on the Wildcats website, is a threat with his legs because of his surprising quickness for his size. After selecting Ohio State, the young quarterback gave an explanation for why he is bringing his skill set to Columbus. He ran for 921 yards and 19 touchdowns while playing for Kansas State.
Howard told ESPN, “I’m glad I took my time with this decision.” I discovered a lot about myself and college football in general via it. The procedure was excellent. I’m very happy that Ohio State was my final choice.I was aware that if I turned this down, I would regret missing the opportunity to play quarterback for Ohio State. I was aware that if I missed this chance, I would regret it.
Will Howard: “I Want to Win a National Championship” is His Reason for Choosing Ohio State.
With K-State, Howard had a 14-11 record. In 2022, he and the Wildcats traveled to the Sugar Bowl, where they were defeated 45–20 by the Alabama Crimson Tide. The last time Ohio State won a national championship was in 2014. The team also participated in the 2020 championship game, but Alabama defeated them 52–24. Howard would like to play for the next OSU team to reach the finals.
“My objective is to go win a national championship,” Howard stated during his ESPN interview. “My ultimate goal is to become a starting quarterback in the National Football League.” Being selected in the first or second round of the NFL draft seems to be the best position for a quarterback to stay in the league. I have the opportunity to take a risk and dive right into that conversation by attending Ohio State.
Along with meeting Ryan Day, the head coach of the Buckeyes, Howard told ESPN that he is eager to collaborate and learn from him.
“I’m a huge football fanatic and talk about the game all day long. That’s how Coach Day and I met and went through the scheme. That is how we clicked. I was confident that was the approach that would best prepare me for that level,” Howard continued.
With Kyle McCord at quarterback, Ohio State Had a chance
There are many things Howard needs to improve on; he is not flawless. However, given that the Buckeyes lost their starting quarterback for 2023, Kyle McCord, to the transfer portal, he is an intriguing prospect. This season, Howard received a 78.6 run grade (20th out of 89 QBs graded) and a 71.5 passing grade (129th out of 273 QBs graded) from PFF.
Although it’s unclear, Howard is a strong contender to start at quarterback for the Buckeyes the following season. He has a large arm and plays the read-option well. However, his tendency to give the ball away is cause for concern. He had nine fumbles at K-State in addition to his 25 picks. Ball security is going to be the most important thing he needs to improve on.
Urban Meyer, the former head coach of Ohio State, is one of the people who thinks Howard will benefit OSU.
Meyer declared, “I love Will Howard,” on January 6. “I have kept a close eye on him. The most important thing is that he is tough and a winner. You want those two things above all else. However, there is a winner that comes to mind: individuals like JT Barrett. Will he be selected as the first or second overall? Most likely not in the NFL draft, but he’s tough and succeeds. And that’s my belief.
