Aston Villa wants to move again…
The representative for Roma defender Leonardo Spinazzola has discussed his client’s future in light of rumors that he may join Aston Villa.
The 30-year-old Italy international, who plays left wingback most of the time, has made 17 appearances overall for Roma this season and has contributed four goals. Spinazzola first gained widespread recognition as a notable member of Italy’s Euro 2020 winning team.
The defender joined Roma in 2019 after starting his career on loan for seven seasons at Juventus. But since his contract is about to expire this summer, there have been rumors that Villa and Arsenal are interested in signing the full-back.
“A contract renewal is not possible,” Lippi said SportItalia. “If things do not work out during the January transfer window, he will become a free agent when his contract expires in June.”
Since Mourinho seems to be favoring academy graduate Nicola Zalewski in his place more and more, Spinazzola may be eager to leave in the January transfer window. In January of last year, Villa pulled off an unexpected transfer to sign Alex Moreno, who would challenge Lucas Digne for the left-back spot. If Spinazzola were to join this month, that would be another great deal.
There were some rumors before the season began that Digne would be leaving Villa Park in the summer. Though Moreno scored six goals in 26 games before suffering a hamstring injury on Boxing Day, Villa manager Unai Emery finally had to rely on the France international due to his remarkable recuperation from injury.
As for Arsenal, they are rumored to be considering Oleksandr Zinchenko as a left-back, since summer acquisition Jurrien Timber was injured on his Premier League debut back in August.
