Warriors Consider Trading Jonathan Kuminga to Be “Virtually a No-Go,” Citing Him as a Potential Star.

If the Golden State Warriors make a big trade deadline move in 2024, Chris Paul might have already played his last game in blue and gold.

The future Hall of Fame point guard will probably miss four to six weeks after surgery to fix a broken left hand, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski. Paul might be back on the court as early as February 8, which is the last day NBA teams are permitted to make trades for the 2023–24 campaign, based on that schedule.

Golden State is among the most intriguing possible basketball acquisitions as the trade deadline approaches. Both Moses Moody and Jonathan Kuminga, former lottery picks who are eligible for contract extensions this summer, have recently voiced their displeasure with their inconsistent roles in Steve Kerr’s rotation. Rumors have surfaced suggesting that one or both of them may be traded for a star veteran as a result.

It was always believed that Paul’s $30 million contract, which is fully non-guaranteed for 2024–2025, represented the Dubs’ best opportunity to match salaries in a deal of that nature. That possibility is further reinforced by his history of injuries and the patchy play of Andrew Wiggins, who currently has a negative contract value, and Klay Thompson, who is still essential to Golden State’s chances of winning the championship.

Clearly, Chris Paul’s tenure with the Warriors hasn’t gone as smoothly as fans inside the team had hoped. Don’t be shocked if it ends quickly.
