In order to strengthen his team’s walls, Brent Venables has finally come to an agreement to sign a major player.

The Oklahoma football team is in the midst of its offseason preparations in anticipation of its 2024 SEC debut. According to Bruce Feldman of the Athletic, the Sooners are expected to select Zac Alley of Jacksonville State to be their new defensive coordinator. Alley’s collaboration with Oklahoma head coach Brent Venables dates back to their time as Clemson football coaches.

Alley oversaw a defense at Jacksonville State that was largely responsible for the Gamecocks’ 9-4 overall record this season, which included a 6-2 conference record.

Oklahoma finished with a 10-3 overall record, going 7-2 in their final Big 12 season, despite losing to Arizona in the Valero Alamo Bowl in the season’s final game. Oklahoma football led the country in interceptions per game (1.5) despite giving up 389.4 opponent yards per game in 13 games.

More development is anticipated from Stutsman, Bowman Jr., and the other highly-touted defensive gems for the Sooners with the addition of Zac Alley. And in order for coach Venables to make a big impression in Oklahoma football’s first SEC season, a reunion with his former Clemson teammate may be essential.
