INDIA PARK — For breaking the gambling policy of the league, the NFL on Thursday suspended three players indefinitely and suspended a fourth player for six games.

Two members of the Indianapolis Colts’ projected starting lineup, cornerback Isaiah Rodgers Sr. and backup defensive end Rashod Berry, were given indefinite suspensions and later waived by the team.

Reinstatement is not possible for Rodgers, Berry, or free agent Demetrius Taylor until after the 2023 campaign. Taylor was also given an indefinite suspension. Rodgers was accused of the same thing after Taylor placed a wager on NFL games in 2022.

The Colts didn’t take long to make a decision.

In a statement, Indianapolis general manager Chris Ballard said, “We have made the following roster moves as a consequence of the determination that these players violated the league’s gambling policy.” The game’s integrity must be upheld at all costs. As a team, we’ll keep teaching our coaches, players, and employees about the rules in place and the serious repercussions that can follow infractions.

Nicholas Petit-Frere, a right tackle for the Tennessee Titans, was suspended for the first six games of the 2023 season for placing bets on sports other than the NFL at the team’s stadium. All off-season and preseason events, including preseason games, are open to him.
