The Detroit Lions have raised the price of their quarterback to $200 million.

Sportrac’s Michael Ginnitti projected that the Lions would secure their quarterback’s position as the team’s signal caller this offseason by spending a substantial sum of money on him. Although Goff’s contract with the Lions is about to expire, an extension is anticipated in the upcoming year.

Ginnitti thought it might be a significant one.

Goff, Jared Towards “Financial Security”
Ginnitti made quarterback projections for all 32 teams for 2024, noting that despite the Lions’ struggles with turnovers this season, they were probably going to make a significant commitment to Goff.

Ginnitti penned, “Los Angeles’ trash is Detroit’s future.” Although he hasn’t had the best season (10 interceptions, 6 fumbles), Jared Goff has performed well enough to earn the Lions more financial stability. In 2024, Goff will begin his contract year, with a $26.6 million salary cap hit.

The 29-year-old currently projects an extension to cost between $39 million and $40 million annually, but a strong postseason performance could stretch those figures significantly, the author stated.

Not everyone was sure what Goff’s future with the Lions would hold. He was acquired by Detroit from the Los Angeles Rams in a trade in 2021, and in his first season, he helped the team to a 3-10-1 record while throwing for 3,245 yards with 19 touchdowns and 8 interceptions, which was his lowest output to date outside of his rookie year.

In 2022, Goff made a strong comeback, throwing for 4,438 yards on 65.1% of his passes with 29 touchdowns and 7 interceptions, helping the team record its first winning season in five years. After that, Goff had another fantastic season, this time completing 67% of his passes for 4,255 yards, 28 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions.

Lions Admit Jared Goff in Public
The Lions have made no secret of their intention to sign Goff to a long-term contract. In an interview with Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press prior to the start of the current campaign, general manager Brad Holmes discussed the contract talks and expressed optimism about a deal.

According to Holmes, there was a commitment from both parties to a contract that would keep Goff in Detroit for the foreseeable future and allow the team to continue building around him with cap space.
