For some reason, Aston Villa declines to play with West Ham and Crystal Palace…
On Friday [5 January, 07:28pm], the broadcaster updated their live blog with information about the England Under-20s captain, who is reportedly valued at an initial £4.5 million.
The center back was heavily connected to West Ham over the summer, and it was always anticipated that they would pique their interest again in the January transfer window.
“Aston Villa are aiming to rival Crystal Palace and West Ham for Peterborough’s England U20 captain Ronnie Edwards,” the Sky Sports report stated.
“Peterborough would need to pay a significant add-on fee and a down payment of £4.5 million for the highly-regarded defender.”
Shortly after [5 January, 07:50 pm], reporter Michael Bridge said on Sky Sports News: “He is a very highly-rated centre-half.” We are aware that three Premier League teams—West Ham, Aston Villa, and Crystal Palace—are considering him.
Edwards appeared to be close to joining West Ham last summer, but for whatever reason, the move fell through.
Five months ago, there was a lot of interest, so you would think United would be keen to sign the 20-year-old this month.
But the longer West Ham takes to act, the more interest he receives from other parties.
In addition to London rivals Crystal Palace, the Hammers also have to contend with the formidable Aston Villa.
Although it may seem expensive to pay £4.5 million for a player from the third division, Edwards is a highly regarded defender, as evidenced by the increasing amount of interest in him.
If Edwards showed up this month, he might not necessarily be a starter, but he is a long-term option.
