Khari Willis is leaving the NFL after just three seasons.

The Colts safety declared his retirement on Instagram on Wednesday.

“I’d first like to thank the Indianapolis Colts organization for granting me the opportunity to compete in the National Football League the past three years,” Willis said in a statement. My life has been profoundly impacted by the countless teammates, coaches, and support staff with whom I have formed enduring relationships. The knowledge I’ve gained during this stage of my life will be helpful to me in the future.

“After careful thought and prayer, I have decided to formally retire from the NFL in order to dedicate the rest of my life to spreading the good news of Jesus Christ. I want to express my gratitude to all of my family, friends, and supporters for helping me along the way. I look forward to having your support going forward as I enter the next stage of my life. I feel greatly joyed and purposed in following God’s holy call for my life, and I am also humbled by it. I appreciate all of your help over the years.

The Colts thanked Willis for his contributions and announced his retirement.

Colts coach Frank Reich said in a statement, “We’re thankful and appreciative of Khari’s contributions to the Colts both on and off the field over the last three seasons.” “Khari’s play on Sundays as well as his leadership, professionalism, and character will be missed in our locker room. I will always pray for him as I respect and admire his decision to move on to the next phase of his life and ministry.”

2019 saw Willis selected in the fourth round out of Michigan State, where he spent his rookie campaign playing in 14 games (nine starts). Before concluding his short career with another 11 games (10 starts), two more interceptions, and 63 tackles in 2021, he started all 14 of the games in 2020 and recorded two interceptions, six passes defensed, and 85 tackles. Pro Football Focus ranked 2020 as his best professional season, awarding him a 70.5 defensive grade.
