Report:Kyle McCord chastises Ohio media for their “BS” transfer reporting.
At quarterback, the Ohio State football team’s season was interesting. Over the last ten years, the Buckeyes have had a surplus of players at the position, which has helped the team’s performance. Despite not quite matching the caliber of recent Ohio State quarterbacks, Kyle McCord was still a very good quarterback this season and managed to lead the Buckeyes to an 11-0 start. And then they had a game with Michigan.
In the year’s last regular season game, Ohio State football’s Kyle McCord threw two interceptions, one of which came on the game’s last drive when the team had a chance to drive down and win. The defeat put a stop to the Buckeyes’ aspirations of competing in the College Football Playoff and Big Ten championship games.
The college football transfer portal opened soon after that defeat, and McCord promptly entered his name and committed to Syracuse football. It was unexpected to observe the entire situation, as McCord had a strong season as a first-year starter and, barring a transfer, would have been guaranteed a spot at Ohio State for the following season. Everyone began to wonder why, and rumors began to spread.
Many believed that McCord left because of the Ohio State fan base. Undoubtedly, there were some critics among the Buckeyes supporters, particularly following the Michigan game, and some felt that McCord had had enough. During his recent appearance on The QB Room podcast, McCord talked about his decision and expressed dissatisfaction with the stories and reporting surrounding it.
On the podcast, McCord stated, “I didn’t really say too much.” “I kind of made my statement and kept the reasons private, sort of inside my inner circle, after I left. I’ve also received calls from media outlets. One Columbus-based news organization contacted me to do a story, but I chose not to respond. My family was contacted to do a story, but they didn’t respond. Nobody responded when I asked people in my circle to write a story. Then you go online the following day and find an article listing the five reasons I left. You read them, and they’re just a bunch of bullshit. At that point, all they’re doing is tugging at your emotions. People read the narrative, believe it to be true, and then begin to believe it and share it, which causes things to just kind of snowball. And it is what it is when you don’t really say anything about it.

“At the end of the day, college football at its highest level and especially on the professional level is a business, as you guys know as well as I do,” McCord said. Ultimately, both Ohio State and I had to make a business decision based on what they believed was in their best interests. Regretfully, the timing was not meant to be for next year. However, in the end, I thought I had assembled some strong games and had some quality tape, so I was sure I would find a good home when I entered the portal.
The biggest surprise to most people when Kyle McCord left Ohio State was that he committed to Syracuse. No offense to the Orange, but they don’t exactly have a great football program. McCord might not have been as good as CJ Stroud when he was with the Buckeyes, but he was still one of the best QBs in the Big Ten. It was a surprise decision, but best of luck to the young man going forward. It was certainly a good pickup for Syracuse.
