Another terribe news hit the Bears ahead of clash with Packers as Matt Eberflus has sorrowfully announced….
As the Bears started getting ready for the regular-season finale against the Packers, they were hurt. The players who did not take part in Wednesday’s practice were long snapper Patrick Scales, wide receiver Darnell Mooney, tight end Cole Kmet, and cornerback Jaylon Johnson. Due to an ankle injury, DJ Moore was limited.
During the Bears’ Week 16 victory over the Cardinals, Kmet suffered a knee injury in the second quarter. In Week 17, he played sparingly against the Falcons. Kmet was not targeted in the passing game and saw just 13 snaps of playing time. Against Atlanta, Robert Tonyan, a receiving tight end, made up ground and finished with a career-high three receptions for forty yards. Should Kmet’s condition not improve by Sunday, he might be called upon once more.
Due to a shoulder injury, Johnson had to leave the game early last week. Having had a stellar season in the Bears secondary, the star cornerback is disappointed by this development. Terell Smith and Tyrique Stevenson, two rookies, will guard the boundaries in Johnson’s absence. All rookie cornerbacks have ups and downs throughout the season, as expected, but Steveson is coming off of his best game to date. He knocked one ball down, intercepted two more passes, and gave up just two catches on six targets. When throwing to Stevenson, Falcons quarterbacks had a pitiful 9.7 passer rating.
Johnson and Kmet’s chances of playing against the Packers are “looking positive,” according to head coach Matt Eberflus.
Mooney stayed in the protocol for concussions on Wednesday. He started the protocol on day ten after self-reporting symptoms after the Bears’ Week 15 loss to the Browns. Trent Taylor, Tyler Scott, and Equanimeous St. Brown all saw an increase in playing time last week while Mooney was out. Collin Johnson, who was promoted from the practice squad, caught one pass for eleven yards.
Throughout the second half of the season, Moore has intermittently dealt with an ankle injury. His injury isn’t very concerning, given that he was still able to practice in a limited way.

These are the 2024 Pro Bowl Game rosters for the AFC and NFC.
In anticipation of Scales’ return in Week 18, the Bears added Matt Overton to the practice squad as a precaution. Prior to joining the Bears, Overton was a member of seven different NFL teams and played in 139 games.
Lastly, Tyson Bagent, the backup quarterback, missed practice due to illness. Nathan Peterman would be Justin Fields’ backup if Bagent is unable to play on Sunday.
