The coach of the commanders painfully announces the catastrophic injury to their most talented player.
Due to a hamstring injury, quarterback Jacoby Brissett of the Washington Commanders is doubtful for Sunday’s game against the San Francisco 49ers.
On Thursday, after practice, Brissett complained of hamstring tightness. The previous day, the team had declared that Brissett would take Sam Howell’s starting position.
Brissett was added to the injury report on Friday after receiving treatment on Thursday. If Brissett is unable to play on Sunday, Howell will take over at quarterback.
In the last two games, which were road losses to the Los Angeles Rams and New York Jets and extended Washington’s losing streak to six games, Brissett took Howell’s place.
Head coach Ron Rivera stated, “It’s a good opportunity for Sam to take a break.” “Jacoby’s proven that he’s a very, very viable player in this league.”
Howell is 16 games into his Commanders career with 16 consecutive starts, including the 2022 season finale.
The 2022 fifth-round pick has a league-high 17 interceptions, including four pick-sixes, to offset his 19 touchdown passes this season, which rank him 11th in the NFL in passing yards (3,624). Additionally, he has had a league-high 60 sacks.
