Don Deal: As the Washington Commanders  introduce another QB to the team

We’ve made a trade! In return for a 2024 third-round pick, the 49ers are acquiring Chase Young from the Washington Commanders.

In a perfect world, San Francisco would have a comp pick at the conclusion of the third round.

Applying consistent pressure is another way to help your secondary, but we’ll see if this ends up being the only trade. Young has nine tackles for loss this season along with five sacks and 14 quarterback hits, according to Sports Info Solutions. The 49ers are searching for a player similar to that in place of Nick Bosa.

Given how disappointing the combination of Clelin Ferrell and Drake Jackson has been, it makes sense that the 49ers were active during the trade deadline.

After this season, Young will be a free agent. After the trade, his current cap number is approximately $5.5 million, but that’s before proration, and it’s unclear if Washington decided to absorb part of Young’s salary in exchange for a higher draft pick. Details about the cap will be made available soon enough.

It’s also a wager on Kris Kocurek, your star defensive line coach. He has made the most of players with far less skill. Consider the backgrounds of Arden Key and individuals such as Samson Ebukam, as well as the transactions they have accomplished since moving to the Bay Area.

With the former No. 2 overall pick, the 49ers are hoping Kocurek can extract every last bit of talent from him. In contrast to the trade for Emmanuel Sanders, the Niners have the cap space in case Young is signed again. Given the athlete, his age, his athletic profile, and the players he is playing with, it is a risk worth taking.

A fast google search for “49ers recent third round picks” should make you reconsider your displeasure over Chase Young’s loss of a third round pick. It’s also important to note that the 49ers will receive compensation picks in exchange for hiring DeMeco Ryans as head coach, Ran Carthon as general manager, and Mike McClingchey.
