One of the Oklahoma Sooner’s best players has been moved.
When former Oklahoma defensive end Kelvin Gilliam announced on Thursday that he was returning home, the Virginia Tech Hokies struck again via the NCAA transfer portal.
Aeneas Peebles (Duke) and Kemari Copeland (Iowa Western CC) are the other two interior defensive linemen to commit to the Hokies since the portal opened earlier this month. Gilliam, a 6-foot-3, 295-pound defensive tackle, is the third. The additions were essential for 2024 because the Hokies will be losing three of their top four defensive tackles.
Gilliam attended Highland Springs High School, where he played football for three seasons before attending Oklahoma. After high school, the former four-star recruit considered the Hokies as a finalist, but in the end, he decided to play for the Sooners. Gilliam played in 16 games over three seasons in Norman, recording 10 tackles. Last season, he struggled with an injury that kept him out of multiple games.
