The coach of the Los Angeles Rams announced the addition of a new standout player.

The Los Angeles Rams will make a roster change on Tuesday as a result of their dissatisfaction with the performance of their special teams unit. The Rams have released Darrell Henderson Jr. from their practice squad to make room for long snapper Alex Matheson.

This past Friday, Matheson and the Rams had a workout. Carson Tinker has been starting at long snapper in recent weeks, while Alex Ward, the starter, is on injured reserve.

Despite lacking NFL experience, Matheson played for the St. Louis Battlehawks in the XFL and recorded snaps. In light of his addition to the practice squad, the Rams felt confident enough in him to challenge Tinker for the starting position going forward.

Since Week 12, Henderson, a seasoned running back, has been a member of the team’s practice squad. Henderson was not on an NFL roster prior to rejoining the Rams, but he made four starts this season while Kyren Williams was on injured reserve.

In Williams’ absence, the former third-round pick was ineffective, accumulating 112 rushing yards and two touchdowns on 46 attempts. The Rams probably no longer felt the need to have Henderson on the practice squad because they trusted Royce Freeman and Ronnie Rivers to provide depth behind Williams.
