Ron Rivera was devastated to hear that his committed player would not be able to play against San Francisco 49ers due to….

With the San Francisco 49ers, Sam Howell might find himself back in the spotlight. After the second-year quarterback threw two interceptions in their most recent game against the New York Jets, the Washington Commanders made the decision to bench him. With Washington down 27–7, Jacoby Brissett entered the game.

Nearly pulling off a comeback, Brissett completed 10 of his 13 pass attempts for 100 yards and a touchdown. Even though Brissett led three scoring drives, the Commanders ultimately lost the game 30-28.

Ron Rivera, the head coach of the Commanders, declared on Wednesday that Brissett will start this weekend’s game against the 49ers. But Washington has added Brissett to its injury report because of a hamstring injury, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, and has designated the seasoned quarterback as “questionable” for Sunday’s game.

“That opens the door to Sam Howell potentially stepping in… and starting again,” Rapoport wrote.

A 49ers team with an 11-4 record will play the 4-11 Commanders. Even though San Francisco has already won their division and earned a postseason spot, the team is focused on taking the top spot in the NFC, which would guarantee them home field advantage and a first-round bye in the postseason.

The Commanders are not taken lightly by the 49ers. Head coach Kyle Shanahan understands that one of the most dangerous opponents can be a team that feels like they have nothing to lose.

“First of all, everyone always has things to lose because usually when people say there’s nothing to lose, there’s a lot of guys playing for their jobs too, and those guys know that,” Shanahan said this week. Even seasoned players who don’t believe they are typically discover at the conclusion of the season that they are. Thus, there are always guys who are giving it their all.”
