Detroit Lions embarrassed their supporters against Minnesota Vikings: a summary of the first quarter and a discussion of the second quarter without producing a positive outcome for the team
At U.S. Bank Stadium, the first quarter is now complete, and your Minnesota Vikings and the Detroit Lions are tied 7–7.
In this one, the Lions won the coin toss and chose to receive rather than defer, so they got the football first. Thanks to a few impressive passes from quarterback Jared Goff, the Lions moved into Minnesota territory. David Montgomery’s 1-yard run put them in the end zone. Halfway through the first quarter, the Lions took a 7-0 lead thanks to the Vikings’ first first-quarter touchdown surrendered in nine weeks.
After the Vikings gained possession of the ball, Nick Mullens hit Josh Oliver for a 33-yard pass to get things going. Yes, after just one play, Minnesota was in Detroit territory thanks to the huge catch-and-run. After that, Mullens connected with a few more receivers, most notably K.J. Osborn on a crucial third-down play, to put the Vikings in a first-and-goal position at the Detroit 7. Following one more Detroit penalty, Ty Chandler’s 2-yard run allowed the Vikings to level the score at 7-7.
The next possession for the Lions didn’t go as well. . for them. Jahmyr Gibbs was hit by Camryn Bynum and fumbled it away with Ivan Pace Jr. recovering for a big turnover and the Vikings started out in Detroit territory!
Regretfully, on a fourth-and-two play in Detroit territory, Nick Mullens was intercepted by Brian Branch, causing the Vikings to commit a turnover of their own.
The Lions face a 2nd-and-6 from their own 24-yard line as we enter the second quarter.
