Russell Wilson was pressured by the Detroit Lions defense, something I believe they were unable to do.
Here’s a sampling of how the country felt after the Detroit Lions defeated the Denver Broncos 42–17.

Unexpectedly, Detroit (10-4) relied on its defense to open up a 21-0 lead. With a perfect pass rush from the initial kickoff, the Lions produced a shutout in the first half. The Lions offense opened the scoring after a slow first quarter. Jared Goff found touchdowns for several playmakers, including Amon-Ra St. Brown, Sam LaPorta, and Jahmyr Gibbs, who also scored on the ground. After the impressive performance, the talk about the Lions being postseason pretenders may have subsided. Next week, they can make a bigger impression if they defeat the Vikings away from home. Before playing the Vikings at home to close off the regular season, Detroit travels to Dallas in Week 17.
“Well Jared Goff was fully operational again. Protected and seemingly at ease, the quarterback took advantage of everything Denver threw at him, including quick-strike darts to St. Brown, LaPorta, and peripheral receivers Josh Reynolds and Jameson Williams. Deep into the game, Jahmyr Gibbs was averaging over eight yards per rush, and St. Brown was nearly unstoppable in open space, demonstrating their offensive prowess. With nearly ten hits on Russell Wilson and tightening up in crucial moments, such as third downs and Denver’s second-half red-zone excursion, Aaron Glenn’s defense was as remarkable.”
“How about a successful comeback? After a difficult start, QB Jared Goff scored five touchdowns, perhaps his greatest performance of the year. Gibbs and LaPorta, both rookies, combined for five touchdowns. The defense was excellent; it only allowed the Broncos to score 17 points and amass 287 yards. The Lions’ performance on Saturday night was possibly their most comprehensive of the year. It follows a run of two losses in three games during which you were never sure which unit would play well. But tonight, the Lions were playing at full tilt. The final outcome? a straightforward victory of 42-17.
That was something the Lions needed. They required an easy victory. In December, they needed their top players to deliver. That was what they received, and more. The Lions handled business this evening, which is why the stars are aligning. ESPN
“Lions wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown called his 13-point effort in the team’s previous week’s defeat to the Chicago Bears “disappointing” and “frustrating,” but the Lions bounced back with a commanding victory over Denver at home thanks to outstanding play on both sides of the ball. Before playing the Broncos, St. Brown had just finished with a season-low 21 receiving yards, and veteran quarterback Jared Goff had made nine mistakes in a four-game span. Goff threw five touchdowns without committing a turnover, while St. Brown amassed 102 receiving yards and a touchdown. They both stood tall.”
“Lions supporters may have forgiven themselves for a little bit of anxiety when the offense managed three punts in the first quarter following two defeats and ten turnovers during the previous month of games. For the remainder of the game, though, Jared Goff and company allayed any remaining fears by going into overdrive against a defense that has been unbeatable since the middle of October. They employed a range of offensive strategies, all of which were wildly effective, and at one point they scored five touchdowns in a row on drives of 80, 61, 81, 75, and 75 yards. One of the most formidable backfield combinations in the NFL, David Montgomery and Jahmyr Gibbs combined for 185 yards and a touchdown on 28 touches for Gibbs.
Gibbs was particularly impressive; he regularly broke ankles while averaging 9.1 yards per carry, darting past containment and adding points via TD receptions. Goff was a surgeon, and he was also the reason behind four of the aforementioned turnovers when Detroit has shaky play. His rapid throws were particularly accurate; for the evening, he completed 24 of 34 passes for 278 yards, a 134.6 passer rating, and five touchdowns.
Sam LaPorta, Gibbs’ fellow rookie star, received an amazing three of those, with Gibbs and Amon-Ra St. Brown receiving the remaining two. With seven catches for 112 yards, St. Brown put Denver to the test. When even a handful of the Lions’ talents are on the field, it is difficult to stop them. They were all tonight.”
