Can the Pistons surpass this pitiful predicted winning total? I don’t think they can win.
It was a sure thing going into the season that the Detroit Pistons would surpass their 17 victories from the previous campaign.
They possessed a top-5 draft pick, $30 million to spend, and most of their roster, including a healthy Cade Cunningham, returned. However, on his own, Cade hasn’t been sufficient, and the Pistons haven’t received much from Monte Morris or Joe Harris. While Ausar Thompson has been a shining light, he has spent the last four games playing 20 minutes or less due to Monty Williams’ decision to keep him buried on the bench.

The squad is currently on a 19-game losing run when you factor in injuries to Monte Morris, Jalen Duren, Isaiah Livers, and Bojan Bogdanovic. What many had believed would be a season with 30 or more victories has turned into one where 17 victories may be beyond reach.
Even though the annual trade deadline fire sale, which may see the Pistons deal players like Bogdanovic and Alec Burks, is still a few days away, the team is already on pace to be the worst season in NBA history.
Detroit still has time to turn it around, and who knows, maybe at one point they will gel. Cade Cunningham has been steady of late and is due for some breakout performances. Maybe Jaden Ivey will get hot, Burks and Livers will find their shots and Marcus Sasser will return to his early-season form. Maybe the Pistons will get off this streak, get some momentum and stack some wins.
But with injuries mounting and no clear win in sight, we could be looking at the worst season in team history at least.
Detroit Pistons’ projected win total
The 1979–80 Pistons, who finished 16–66, own the lowest record in team history. With 59 games remaining, the current Pistons are on pace to win half as many games as that team did.
According to Bleacher Report’s most recent win-loss projections, the Pistons would go 14-68, which is terrible and would be a new low for the team.
At 19.5 for the season, Fanduel currently has the Pistons’ victory total; you would have to be a risk-taker to go over.
We are looking at another season with less than 20 wins because the Pistons will need to make a significant turnaround before they can even be considered in that bracket. Troy Weaver’s career could be in jeopardy if Detroit loses more games this season since his fingerprints are all over the roster’s issues. The Pistons shouldn’t be worse in any way, especially considering the assets and cap space he had last summer.
You have to wonder if Weaver will be the one handling the rebuilding this time around, with half of their roster opening up this offseason.no one bio
