Cleveland Browns tight end David Njoku revealed the extent of his burns, which he described as “probably the most painful burn you can have,” following a bonfire accident earlier this season. The 27-
year-old gave a thorough explanation of what happened on September 29 when he was trying to use a spray to light logs in his backyard pit when some flying debris caught fire and exploded in his face.
Njoku’s injuries were described by Dr. Joseph Khouri of University Hospitals as second-degree partial
thickness burns that affected the top two layers of skin.
Njoku disregarded medical advice not to play right after the incident and instead suited up for the Browns in a game against the Ravens just two days later, claiming that the game was “personal.”
Njoku had six catches for 46 yards during the game, but he was in excruciating pain the entire time.
Njoku is using his platform to represent the American Burn Association in the NFL’s “My Cause, My
Cleats” promotion this weekend in an attempt to increase awareness of burn victim advocacy.
