Indianapolis – Wide receiver KJ Hamler was added to the Practice Squad Injured list by the Indianapolis Colts today, along with wide receiver Ethan Fernea.
After taking part in the team’s 2023 offseason program and training camp, Fernea, 6-0, 195 pounds, re-joins the Colts. August 5, 2023, saw him added to the list of injured reserve members. Fernea participated in both the active
roster and the practice squad for Indianapolis in 2022 as a rookie. In one game, he watched action. Fernea was first signed on May 13, 2022, by the Colts as an undrafted free agent. He caught eight passes for 155 yards (19.4 average)
and two touchdowns in 50 games (three starts) during his collegiate career at UCLA (2016–21). Fernea gained 83 yards (8.3 average) on 10 carries and one touchdown. In addition, he had 12 tackles (nine solo). The pronunciation of his last name is FIR-knee-uh.
September 30, 2023, saw the signing of Hamler, a 5-9, 178-pound player, to the team’s practice squad. With the Colts (2023) and Denver Broncos (2020–22), he has participated in 23 career games (six of which he started) and
amassed 42 receptions for 620 yards (14.8 avg.) and three touchdowns. In addition, Hamler has two kickoff returns for 42 yards (21.0 avg.), three punt returns for six yards (2.0 avg.), and eleven carries for 63 yards (5.7 avg.). In the second round (46th overall) of the 2020 NFL Draft, the Broncos first selected him out of Penn State.
